The Imp’s Revenge

Before Christmas I wrote about the formidable, gruelling, painful 12-mile obstacle course known as Tough Mudder. Since completing Tough Mudder, I have spoken to many people who like the idea in theory, but consider being electrocuted, crawling face down in mud under barbed wire and running through bales of burning haystacks somewhat… extreme.

Happily, there are slightly toned-down events, and one of them is available right here in Lincolnshire. The Imp’s Revenge will take place in Lincoln on June 1st. At 10km, it is roughly half the distance of Tough Mudder, but still lengthy enough to put you through your paces.

Do not let me fool you into thinking the obstacles will be easy, either. The course guide suggests competitors will be expected to carry tyres and sandbags through obstacles, putting their upper-body strength to the test, while the ominously named ‘walls, walls, walls…’ will no doubt be tough to scale. Unspecified ‘urban challenges’ could mean anything, while a simple question mark could hide all sorts of secret trials. Like any event of this nature, there is bound to be a healthy dose of mud and water, too.

Make it to the end and you will be rewarded with a local beer, which sounds like a pretty good way of ending any race, if you ask me. For information on prices and how to get involved, check out the website.
