Matt’s fitness tip of the week

You want to get into shape for the summer, you want to be the envy of your peers when the sun comes out and the shirts come off…then you’ve come to the right place.

This week’s tip is to underestimate your own abilities as a beginner. If you’re new to the gym you can’t simply walk up to the heavier weights and automatically start lifting them. That is in fact the worst thing you could do right now. That is how you cause injuries.

Form is the most important thing to remember when weight-training; you can use lighter weights but still achieve incredible results simply by concentrating on achieving the perfect form.

And how do you know if your form is perfect? Do your research by watching YouTube videos or reading fitness magazines, even ask your gym instructors; it’s what they get paid for.

Once you have learnt how to lift the weights safely, then you’ll be ready to take it up to the next level. You will be bicep curling the heavy weights before you know it. But for now all you need to concentrate on is attaining that perfect form, and getting used to lifting weights.

Training safe doesn’t mean you can’t train hard.
