Sainsbury’s School Games

Flipside found itself at the Lincolnshire’s Sainsbury’s Winter School Games recently, where hundreds of school children were given their first taste in competitive sport. Around 80 primary schools signed up for the event, where 650 children all took part in activities throughout the day. Some of the main sports on show included: swimming, basketball, netball, hockey and new age kurling. Teams ranged from 8 to 18 year-olds all hoping to walk away with a medal.

Foil in love with fencing

Few sports have as gruesome a background as fencing. The art of swordsmanship used to be a matter of life and death and, while the stakes are not quite so high these days, the basic skills required have remained largely unchanged for centuries. Sainsbury’s School Games coming to Lincolnshire

Inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Sainsbury’s School Games aims to inspire and motivate young people to participate in competitive sport. From level one – aimed to get each and every student involved in a sport – to level four – which pits the country’s most talented youngsters against one another – the Games take place throughout the year.
