Teams ranged from 8 to 18 year-olds all hoping to walk away with a medal.

So why is it so hard for people to commit to exercise, is keeping fit just not for them? Are they stuck with their lazy ways, or have they just not found the right sport for them yet? Continue reading

The Sport Relief games

Comic Relief has partnered up with Sainsbury’s and has formed the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games. There are three events, the mile, the swimathon and the cycle.

Here in Lincoln you can take part in either the mile or the swimathon, the nearest cycle is unfortunately Manchester.

Run by Comic Relief it is a way you can get active as well as help those less fortunate than you. And if you don’t feel like you’re physically up to the challenge then not to worry because for the run you can do either one, three or six miles. Even the most unfit of us must be able to run one mile, surely. Even if you cant run, walk. The Lincoln mile, as it is being called, is taking place on Risheholme Road near Bishop Grosseteste.

Running not for you? Then try the swimathon, you can do one and a half kilometers, two and a half kilometers, five kilometers or there’s even an option called simply swim. It will be taking place at the North Kesteven centre in North Hykeham.

Starting on Friday 21st and finishing Sunday 23rd March; why not get some sponsors, get active and help raise money for a good cause in the process.

Lincoln’s 10K road race

Here’s one for you cardio enthusiasts; on April 6th Lincoln will be holding it’s 18th Active Nation City of Lincoln 10K road race.

With 4,000 racers having already entered there are still 1,500 spaces left to fill. If you want to have a go at testing your own limits this might be a good place to start. At just over 6 miles it is a long enough race to really push you and assess your own limits, but its not a marathon; nor is it anywhere near the distance of a marathon.

Entry is £21 for those who are part of a running club and £23 for those of you who aren’t.

You can even get involved and not worry about having to run, the events team are trying to gather as many volunteers as possible to help out with handing out medals, water and just making sure the whole event runs to plan.

Theres something for all ages as there will be children’s races and even a wheelchair race, so anybody and everybody can get involved.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18, but anyone wanting to volunteer can email 10keventofficer@lincoln.gov.uk

For you racers out there that are eager to get on the road you can enter on the website  www.lincoln10k.co.uk , or call 01522 873771. The cut off date for the event is 4pm March 21st.
